'The Fine Art of Boundaries' Workshop by Bree Le Roux | Reflection by Kit

Today I participated in ‘The Fine Art of Boundaries’ by Bree Le Roux via Zoom, alongside a group of other growth-committed people.

It was an insightful and empowering experience for me.

I see Bree as a personal coach but participating in the workshops provide other elements. Firstly, you are there to specifically learn new information on one topic, Bree invests a lot of her own life experience, qualifications, research, time, and love into these – and it shows. But also, she provides a safe, respectful, and confidential space for people to share. This element is really empowering because it gives other people insight and perspectives. Some stories will give you a version of what might appear to be the ‘other side’ of your perspective and others will hit home hard. This gives common humanity, compassion and understanding – which are all powerful for growth.

I don’t want to share in too much detail what information was provided in the workshop because that is Bree’s time and work to share, and she is more qualified to do so too. But I did want to share with you a few key take-homes from the day.

  • As you know, since you’re on our page, SunnySunday is about bringing people together – and this workshop did that, and as I mentioned above re-emphasised the power of collectiveness, engagement and connection to work towards positive change and growth. I really hope Bree continues to bring these workshop formats, and more of our community can join in on them. I have participated in the ‘Relationships’ and ‘The Fine Art of Boundaries’ so far, so if either of those topics interest you, please get in touch with her to see if she will be doing re-runs anytime soon. They usually cost around $50 pp which I think is a real bargain for 90 mins of learning.

  • Boundaries are an empowering tool. These words mean more to me than the sentence might show. Having completely lacked them (you can read a little about my growth so far here) and having recently found the tools to use them and being committed to keep practising them, I feel full with a new sense of strength, confidence, accountability, self-control and emotional stability. In my experience, boundaries help shift people away from the victim and gives them the power to know what is right for YOU, and when to use yes or no and how to communicate that with good intention and honest to build healthier more whole relationships, while respecting yourself.

  • Alongside information, there were three reflective exercises in the workshop. Again, I don’t want to go into too much detail, because I want people to experience this workshop for themselves. All three were great (self-reflection is CRUCIAL to growth), but the biggest take-away for me… Bree guided us with questions into looking at current and future relationships and how we want to use boundaries to see good change and health. Doing this makes it progressive and manageable for existing, and more conscious and considered for new relationships – and gave me some real-world take-homes for moving forward.

  • There was SO much more I took home from it too.

I know this article doesn’t give you too much educational content, my intention is more for encouragement to those who do struggle with setting boundaries to accommodate standards and values for YOU and how others treat you to go out and learn, grow, read, sign up to workshops or coaching so you can learn and GROW – so you can feel as empowered as I now do. Because I am a real world case of someone who felt like I had almost lost myself and control of my emotional state, to someone who today feels so excited to be on this journey of strength and empowerment and discovery of the new, more whole version of myself – who I love and respect – and taking this person into my relationships and life.

Denise also sees Bree at times as part of her development but chose not to do this particular workshop because this is one of her MANY strengths – which has been a huge inspiration and support to me in my journey too. But there will be other topics Bree covers in workshops that are areas she sees room for growth. I just love our differences and ability to respect and understand each other and work together so well to support each others personal growth and encourage those around us through SunnySunday and other life channels too. And I think a big part of that is that we communicate and respect each other’s individual boundaries so well.

@sunnysundaynz on September 13th, Bree will give a presentation on #GROWTH. We bring you this because we want to see everyone around us grow and prosper too – YOU deserve it, WE ALL deserve it. See you there, link in our events page.
